This is where we were this morning. Out on the water on a Raggy Charters boat called \u201cMy China\u201d (which means my friend in SA slang\u2026originally from the cockney rhyming slang for mate!) in Algoa Bay off the coast of Port Elizabeth\/Gqeberha, South Africa.<\/p>

<\/p>

We had the most incredible sightings of 2 pods of Indo-Pacific Bottlenose dolphins, penguins and loads of other sea birds and a rare up close encounter with the shy Brydes Whale who is local to these waters. It was breathtaking staring across the blue expanse and seeing this massive creature surfacing to breathe.<\/p>

<\/p>

The dolphins were jumping and playing and investigating the boat, playing in the deep water just off the offshore island of St Croix.<\/p>

If you are ever in SA I really recommend doing one of these tours with Raggy Charters<\/a>, whose profits all get plowed back into marine conservation and research in the Bay. They've been going since I was a kid and I've been out a number of times since I was at primary school, but never had such a gorgeous day or seen so many dolphins!<\/p>

We also picked up a load of plastic out the water as we went - despite being a marine conservation area the rich sea life of the bay is under threat from commercial shipping and associated pollution and oil spills which have decimated the penguin population and are a threat to all the marine life.<\/p>

The company also plant carbon dioxide sequestering plants such as the native spekboom to offset the pollution from the fuel they use to take the boats out. A bush for each short trip and 3 for the long ones. A small and sustainable company doing amazing things- campaigning, education and these amazing tours.<\/p>
